The Yosemite Valley is generally accessible year round, but to get above the valley, to see the massive scale below, you have a small window of opportunity from June or July through October or November. It all depends on the snow - that dictates whether Glacier and Tioga roads are open.
On this occasion, I really wanted to get back to Glacier Point and properly spend the whole day up there, but the road was closed due to a recent snow storm. Unable to drive over, our commitment to getting up there remained, so we had one option: climb.
Just after sunrise, we started the 10 mile, 3200 foot elevation adventure. It was grueling on the legs, but every couple minutes the view got more and more impressive. We stayed at Glacier until the sunset and hiked back down in the dark.
