The magnificence of Death Valley is its ability to make you truly feel you are on another planet. It is an ever-changing, powerful environment. In every direction, there are fragments of a prehistoric world, lying still.
My second visit to the park was a quick one, coming in through the backside, intending to reach the golden dunes, carefully hidden away. We drove down a long gravel road for hours, worried the van would either run out of gas or would fall apart from the harsh rattling from the rocks we traversed. We got to our campsite and climbed up the dunes for sunset. At the top, I saw the moon rise over the mountains and snapped this photo.
