The whole riverbank had turned gold, and the Merced held a mirror image of it. Crossing a bridge near El Cap, I saw the light pouring into the valley and rushed to find a composition in the yellow leaves. Of everything in Yosemite, this river is where I find the most peace. I’m not someone who can sit in one place all day waiting for the light; I move, and the river lets me. I pick a start and an end, and walk it slowly, searching.
