Mt. Rainier National Park | Washington

For years I had wanted to stand beneath Mt. Rainier, and photos of red ridgelines below the volcano finally got me there. The trip we planned was really for the golden larches in the Cascades, but we stole one full day here and walked a few short trails on the south side, slowly, with nowhere else to be. It was one of the first trips my wife and I had taken alone since our first child was born, and the quiet felt like its own kind of luxury. Rainier was the whole package: the mountain, the falls, the foliage, and miles of meadow trails to see it all.
