Every year my best friend and I go exploring in the Sierras, and this time we took the slow way up the east side, chasing places neither of us had been before. We set out for sunrise in pitch black, took a few wrong turns across hills of sagebrush, and finally parked on the canyon rim, coffee in hand. Then we waited. The first light came glowing across the steaming hot springs, and below, the creek wound its way toward the peaks. That line of water leading to the mountains is what pulled me to the ledge to shoot a full roll.
