Desert Blues
Desert Blues
Monument Valley, Arizona
February 2022
There’s a scene in “Easy Rider” when they ride through the desert and “The Weight” plays in the background. That scene captured my imagination as I saw the buttes becoming silhouettes under the fading light.
It took me two long trips, years apart, to get here and get this shot the way I pictured it in my mind. On my second trip, it was winter again, and I stood for hours braving the bitter cold wind, watching the sky grow darker as I studied the high beams on the last cars driving out of the valley, practicing my framing, lighting, and timing. This was the shot I went for.
